Are Senior Pictures Awkward?

Here’s the inside scoop… senior pictures aren’t supposed to be awkward!! THEY’RE ACTUALLY REALLY FUN!
To ensure your senior session isn’t uncomfortable, here are some key tips:
Make sure you book a photographer that you vibe with. Check out their Instagram highlights and see if they’re someone you think you’d get along with! If you’re a super outgoing, bubbly person and you book someone who is quiet and reserved, there’s a potential to feel a little awkward. Make sure you book someone who matches your energy level!!
Book a professional!! I think it would be be super awkward to show up to your senior photos and have to pose yourself!! You’re not an expert in posing, but your photographer is supposed to be! If you had to try to pose yourself that wouldn’t be fun at all! Professional photographers have endless knowledge on posing and should always tell you what to do with your hands, your feet, everything!! There’s no awkward moments trying to figure out what the heck you’re supposed to do, because they’ll always show you!
Go into your session with an open mind and heart! I promise you that your photographer cares. Photographers always want to be your friend and love getting to know you! I can guarantee you that most of the time, after leaving your session you’ll feel like bffs! Becoming friends throughout the session will definitely make things not awkward! Photographers are your ultimate hype-person and just want to make you feel as fabulous as you are!!
Here are a few things that I do to ensure that my clients are always comfortable, having fun, and so there’s no awkwardness!
I always pose you! I think this is the biggest thing for feeling comfortable! I’ll always tell you exactly what to do and even pose along with you!
I HYPE YOU UP! I am your biggest hype girl!!!! Before your session, during your session, and forever afterwards!! Get ready to be bombarded with compliments at your session!
I create a safe space! Nothing you ever do could be “weird,” everything you have to say is important, I care about how you feel, I am SO openminded, and I truly want to be your friend! I promise you I’ll make a fool of myself at your session so you won’t have to worry about anything you’re doing!!
I always explain what’s going on! I will never leave you in the dark. I think that to feel fully comfortable with something, you have to know what’s happening! When we get to a location I’ll explain what we’re going to do, tell you where we’re going to go, etc! That way you’re never anxious about what’s going to happen next, because you already know!
I prepare you SO MUCH! The amount of pre-session resources and emails I send you is a bit over the top in the best way possible! You’ll be extremely prepared for your session and this will make you feel more confident going into it! This also means that we’ll be talking a lot before your session too! :)
I love enjoying the moment and having fun! Want music at your session? I always bring a speaker with me so we can jam and take super fun pictures at the same time! You know how fun it is to go out and take some Instagram pictures with your besties? That’s how your session will feel except I’ll pose you professionally, use all of my lighting tricks, and all of my professional knowledge to give you photos that are wall worthy and not just Instagram worthy ;)
